Johnny Depp sells fourth of five penthouses recently listed in LA’s Eastern Columbia building

LA’s art deco Eastern Columbia building

Johhny Depp has sold the fourth – and smallest – of five penthouse apartments he listed for sale in downtown Los Angeles last September, four months after separating from his second wife, Amber Heard.

The suites, all in the art deco Eastern Columbia building at 849 South Broadway, were expected to sell for a total of USD$12.78 million (which converts in Australian dollars today to $16 million) for the producer and Golden Globe award winning actor.

In October, Depp sold the first dwelling – with three bedrooms –  for USD$2.54 million ($A3.2 million). A month later another apartment exchanged hands for $USD3.1 million ($A3.9 million)

Soon after, a third dwelling seeking USD$2.48 million ($A3.12 million), sold.

Overnight, the LA Times reported that the second-last unit is trading for USD$1.82 million (A$2.3 million). The two-storey, three-bedroom dwelling covering 163 square metres includes high ceilings and windows capturing mountain and city skyline views.

The final unit – a one bedroom with a wall mural by Brazilian street artist Osgemeos, is priced at USD$1.79 million ($2.25 million).

The top level of the Eastern Columbia has a sky deck with a fitness centre, pool and spa.

Depp, now 53, had a bitter and at-times high-profile split from Heard – arguably climaxing in the media when the 31-year old actress accused her estranged husband of abuse (the day after the actor’s mother died).

The pair’s recent visit to Australia made local headlines when Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce insisted the US entertainers send home two dogs bought here in violation of strict quarantine laws. The pair circulated an apology video last April.

Last week Heard trolled Joyce on Twitter when it was revealed the politician held a dual citizenship (Joyce later renounced the New Zealand one).

Alanis Morissette’s outgoing Brentwood house

It has been a busy month for celebrity deals in Los Angeles.

Two weeks ago, Alanis Morissette listed a USD$7 million 1951-Mediterranean style mansion in Brentwood.

Jay Z an Beyoncé also confirmed last week speculation reported by us on August 2 that they were paying USD$88 million for a sprawling Bel Air pad.

A room in the Bel Air mansion Beyoncé and Jay-Z are rumoured to be buying for $US88 million
